Where it all began! The mining and quarrying sector for Spillard is where the technology really adds value to benefit both the operator and the site manager. With an approximate number of 2,000 mines and quarries in the UK producing a vast range of materials, this is a sector that is complex, heavy, expensive to operate and, at times, a dangerous place to work, with the industry experiencing approximately 12,000 fatalities annually worldwide.
In this video, the effectiveness of Spillard’s AI Human Detection System is demonstrated, showing how quickly the operator is alerted if an on-site worker is positioned within 5 metres of the vehicle in real time. Through deep learning technology, the operator is given full transparency of which direction on-site workers are located in, while the workers are informed when the machine can be safely approached.
These operators are required to work safely and efficiently with 24 hour shift patterns, sometimes in close proximity of another vehicle. For example, a 150 tonne dump truck could be working alongside an excavator to remove post-explosion rock, which is a high risk situation.
Spillard technology is able to eliminate this risk by providing state of the art camera technology, digital recorders and monitors, helping the driver to operate the machinery on site safely, whilst working efficiently around the clock.
In addition to camera technology, Spillard offers a range of sensors that can be applied to the front, side and rear of the vehicle, giving the operator a 360 degree view of the vehicle, but also sensors that make audible announcements including “door not shut”, “objects outside vehicle”, or a seatbelt notification to name but a few.
Ask about Spillard Live, the award-winning Spillard Live cloud platform captures, processes and learns from an equally innovative video telematics system that displays real-time video and analytics from multiple cameras over a fleet of vehicles simultaneously.
All of this live data is safely stored on a UK secured system with full GDPR compliance, providing invaluable trend analysis to support higher safety standards and aiding in better driving habits and accident reduction.
The downloadable visibility studies are an ongoing project and have been carried out for various clients on machines working within the UK. All studies are carried out on the understanding that they are licence free and are wholly owned by Spillard Safety Systems Ltd, unless otherwise stated.
